Syllabus
American History
Archbishop Ryan High School
Mr. Finnegan
2007-2008 Syllabus
This year we will study the history of the United States of America beginning with the era of colonization, and finishing with the end of the Cold War. We will focus on such topics as the formation of American government, slavery, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the Industrial
Revolution, the Progressive Movement, the World Wars, the Cold War, and 20th Century culture.
*Course Requirements:
-All students are expected to have a two subject notebook, one section for notes, and one section for homework. Buy a two subject notebook if you don’t already have one; they cost less than $1.00. Failure to have this item will negatively affect your homework grade.
-Students will be required to bring textbooks to class everyday.
*Homework:
-Homework will be given on a regular basis. You will be given homework 3-4 nights per week.
-You will usually be given some class time to complete homework assignments.
-Homework is to be kept in the homework section of your two subject notebook. Homework must be labeled with the date of the homework assignment, and the page number, and question numbers of the assignment. Homework will not be accepted unless it is in your homework book.
-Homework questions must always be written out. Failure to write the question will result in an incomplete homework.
-Homework is a very important part of your grade. Failure to complete homework can lead to failing grades for the quarter, and or semester.
*Following Directions:
-One of the most important things to know how to do in order to do well in this class is following directions. Always pay attention and carry out the instructions given. That, above all else will help you succeed in this class.
*Rules
-All students are expected to follow the rules and regulations that are outlined in the Archbishop Ryan Student handbook. When I am talking in class no one else is to be talking at any time for any reason. When another student is called on and is talking to the class, no other student is to be talking for any reason.
*Contact: The best way for you or your parents to communicate with me throughout the school year is through e-mail. My e-mail address is finngov@yahoo.com. My web page for this class is http://finnhistory2008-09.blogspot.com/.
*Grading: Your quarterly grade will be calculated based upon the following formula:
Tests: 50%
Project: 25 %
Homework: 25%
*This grading formula is subject to change, but will be the formula for most quarters.
